The picnic area at Lower Otay Reservoir has 13 barbecues and 16 picnic tables. Patrons can bring self-contained gas barbecues for use in designated areas only.

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and at least 50 feet away from the water.

Fishing

Fishing

Florida-strain largemouth bass, bluegill, and bullhead. Fishing is offered on a catch and release (zero kill) basis, with barbless artificial lures only for all species of fish.

Anglers 16 years of age or older must have a California state fishing license.

Boats are only permitted on the Lower Otay Reservoir.

Boats are available for rent or you may bring your private boat. A permit is required.

Float tubes, waders, and fishing from shore is permitted.

Regulations & Recommendations

Use of float tubes is restricted to within 150 feet or less from shore. Float tubers must wear chest waders and have a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device readily available at all times.
Boats are not permitted on the Upper Otay Reservoir.
No overnight camping.
No ground fires or glass containers.
Patrons can bring self-contained gas barbecues for use in designated areas only.

Trail Finder Detail

The GPS map progressively increases detail as you zoom in to prevent information overload.

Trail Finder maps are a subset of the GPS map. Trail Finder maps of large regions do not include the lowest zoom levels. In most cases, the GPS map has two more layers of detail than the Trail Finder maps.
